asteya: non-stealing; to take nothing that does not belong to us 💐
Asteya is the yogic principle of abstaining from taking (or the intent to take) any actions, speech, or thoughts that aren’t yours. We should only take if something is offered, and what we take should not exceed our need. This not only applies to how we treat others, but also ourselves. We can practice asteya by being mindful of what or who steals from us and setting healthy boundaries. 👏🏼
Some mantras to help you practice asteya in your daily life...
•I will not take advantage of others.
•I will listen to others without taking away their moments.
•I will set and maintain healthy boundaries for myself.
•I will respect others and honor any boundaries they may set.
You may have noticed I’ve been MIA for a while now. I decided to set limits on my social media for the last few weeks because the constant updates, notifications, messages, etc. felt like they were stealing my freedom and sanity. The time I spent mindlessly scrolling was replaced with long walks, completing puzzles, taking care of plants, and of course more yoga. Overall, I felt more present and way less stressed. I’m curious to know, does social media ever make you feel this way? Is it easier for you to apply asteya toward others or yourself? 🤔
