The struggle is REAL, y'all! For the past two weeks I have been in this weird exhausted funk and I wasn't sure why. I was talking to Ben yesterday and I said, "I seriously don't know what is wrong with me. It's like all of my energy and motivation has completely disappeared." He replied, "Maybe there's nothing wrong with you, maybe your RA is just flaring up." And then it was like a 💡 went off! Duh! I'm not lazy, I just have chronic fatigue. 😴
For those of you who aren't familiar with rheumatoid arthritis and other auto-immune disorders like it, chronic fatigue is a major symptom. While my RA medication helps TREMENDOUSLY with the pain and inflammation, it does absolutely NOTHING to help with the fatigue and exhaustion that comes with this nasty little disorder. And when I talk about fatigue, I don't mean being a little tired. I'm talking about the kind of exhaustion that sits on you like a ton of bricks for weeks at a time. The kind of exhaustion that 10 hours of sleep and 6 cups of coffee doesn't even remotely help. •
In times like these, I try to listen to my body and give it what it needs but I'm also incredibly stubborn as well. I don't like that my body wants to dictate what it will and won't do - so I try to get some exercise in, with what little energy I have. After taking the last two days as rest days, I thought I'd try this Upper Body Circuit, (no CrossFit moves for me today 😉. This video was round 2 of 3 and I am not joking, I seriously laid out on that bench for like 5 minutes afterward, just trying to WILL myself to keep going. Some days, the struggle is real and other days, it's not so bad but you've just got to keep going. One day at a time.
